Board of Directors
RACQ CQ Rescue’s Board of Directors are made up of community leaders, business people and supporters who devote their time and expertise to the organisation voluntarily and without remuneration.
Chris Wright: Chairman; FCPA
Chris became a partner of Brown & Bird Accountants on July 1, 1999 and has more than 25 years of experience in public practice. Chris is a registered company auditor and a Fellow Member of Certified Practising Accountants (FCPA).
As well as being Chairman of RACQ CQ Rescue and Director of Central Queensland Helicopter Rescue Service, Chris is an active and devoted board member or member of several other clubs and committees in the region including Whitsunday Anglican School, the Port of Mackay Rotary Club, Flagon & Dragon and various other private companies. He has been a member of CQ Rescue since 2004.
Dr Bert Sadleir: Director; MBBS (Qld 1976), Dip OBS, RACOG, MPH & TM, FACRRM
A foundation member of CQ Rescue, Bert was Director of Emergency Medicine at the Mackay Base Hospital from 1990 – 2011.
He is chairperson of the RACQ CQ Rescue Clinical Risk Management Committee and was medical crew for the rescue chopper when it began operation in 1996.
He was also a Major in the Australian Army Reserves (RAAMC).
Dr Peter Bastable: Director; OAM; MB Bch BAO (Nat Uni Ireland; FACEM
A foundation member and chairman of the RACQ CQ Rescue for a decade until his recent retirement, Peter was named 2015 Mackay Citizen of the Year in the Australia Day awards.
He is a specialist in emergency medicine with extensive medical experience in the practice of all aspects of emergency medical care and pre-hospital care and has significant experience in hospital and health administration within the Mackay region. He also shares close links to all health providers, public and private, and in particular to the Queensland Ambulance Service in the region.
Peter has been in general practice in Mackay for 18 years and was previously Director of Emergency Department and Deputy Medical Superintendent at the Mackay Base Hospital for 12 years. He was appointed as a Member of the Mackay Regional Health Authority from 1993 to 1996 and is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM).
He was presented with a Paul Harris fellowship by Rotary in 2013.
Julie Boyd: Director, FAIM, GAICD, CM
Julie was Mayor of Mackay City Council from 1997 to 2008 and a councillor from 1988 to 1990 and 1994 to 1997 and possesses extensive knowledge of the region and people within in.
She has been a member of RACQ CQ Rescue since 2012 and is a member of several boards including the Australian Institute of Management Group and former Chair and General Manager of the Resource Industry Network.
Julie is a company director and consultant, retired Registered Nurse and Midwife and is also a Centenary Medal recipient and Paul Harris Fellow.
Bill Cooper: Director ; LLB, B. Bus (Accounting)
Bill is a retired solicitor and accountant who has been a member of RACQ CQ Rescue since 2005. He was admitted as an accountant in 1980 and as a solicitor in 1985 and owned and managed Bill Cooper and Associates Solicitors for more than 40 years.
Bill was Mackay Citizen of the Year in 2005 as part of the Australia Day Awards and is a past president of Variety Queensland and a past member of Lions International
He has served as an honorary solicitor to numerous sporting clubs and served on a number of boards across the region, currently the Pioneer Valley Water Board and the Mackay Golf Club.
Neil McEvoy: Director; B.Bus (Banking and Finance)
Neil is a finance broker and director of Allied Leasing Corporation with extensive experience in the region’s finance sector.
He is a foundation member of CQ Rescue and an active Rotarian and past president as well as former Director and Deputy Chair of MRAEL Ltd.
Neil is a Senior Associate with FINSIA and Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) as well as Director of Betterent companies.
