A 39-year-old Finch Hatton man had to be cut free from the wreckage of his car after it plunged off a bridge at Mt Ossa tonight.
RACQ CQ Rescue landed on Mirani-Mt Ossa Road, 50km west of Mackay, at 7 pm after the man’s car left the road and crashed into Silent Grove Creek about 6.30pm.
The male driver sustained serious head injuries including a possible fractured skull and severe cuts and lacerations in the accident.
An ambulance crew treated the injured man on at the scene until Mirani-Mt Ossa Road was closed so the Mackay-based rescue helicopter could land and transfer the patient to the hospital. The helicopter landed at the accident scene and took off again with the patient aboard within 20 minutes.
The man was in a stable condition when the helicopter landed at Mackay Base Hospital at 7.40 pm.
RACQ CQ Rescue returned to base at 8.15 pm.
