Injured Toddler Airlifted After Quad Bike Accident on Hinterland Property

A toddler was injured when her brother ran over her in a tragic quad bike accident in the Eungella hinterland late this afternoon.

RACQ CQ Rescue flew a total of 120 nautical miles (222 kilometres) to land on the cattle property near Broken River about 5.15 pm and then transfer the injured one-year-old girl to Mackay Base Hospital.

An RACQ CQ Rescue spokesperson said it was believed the accident happened just after 4 pm. The little girl was standing behind a quad bike on the property when her older brother accidentally put the vehicle in gear and reversed over her.

The spokesperson said the child sustained serious injuries to her pelvis which required scans and further testing in hospital.

The helicopter, with a flying trauma team including a doctor and intensive care paramedic aboard, was on the ground at the property for about 50 minutes while the toddler was stabilised and prepared for transport.

The child was accompanied by her mother to Mackay Base Hospital. She was in a stable condition upon the rescue helicopter landing at 6.35 pm.
