RACQ CQ Rescue airlifted a 60-year-old woman with head injuries after she fell on a walking track at Finch Hatton yesterday.
The Mackay-based rescue helicopter was returning from a transfer from Hayman Island about 4 pm when they were notified of a possible winch task near the gorge, about 68 kilometres west of Mackay. They had to return to base to refuel and reconfigure the aircraft before arriving on scene at Finch Hatton about 5.50 pm.
Given the fading light and the difficult terrain, the rescue helicopter was forced to land at the Finch Hatton Showgrounds and wait for ambulance and SES crews to carry the woman about three kilometres through the bushland.
The Biloela woman was then transferred by ambulance to the waiting helicopter for transfer to Mackay Base Hospital.
She arrived at Mackay Base Hospital about 7.30 pm in a stable condition.
The RACQ CQ Rescue crew was then tasked to their third job for the day at Clermont to airlift a patient to Mackay Base Hospital. They returned to base at Mackay Airport after midnight.
