A man was trapped in the wreckage of his vehicle for 45 minutes after a horror head-on smash near Collinsville this morning.
The man was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital with serious leg, pelvic and arm injuries after two cars collided on a straight stretch of the Bowen Developmental Road, 40km west of Collinsville, about 9 am.
The driver of a four-wheel drive, which was flipped on its roof by the impact, sustained minor injuries, but the male driver of a small sedan was trapped by the legs and had to be cut free by Queensland Fire and Rescue crews.
RACQ CQ Rescue landed on the road about 10 am to assist treat and transport the injured man to Mackay Base Hospital. He arrived at the hospital in a stable condition about midday.
RACQ CQ rescue returned to base at Mackay Airport about 12.55pm.
