The Queensland State of Origin team made a flying visit to Mackay’s rescue helicopter hangar late this afternoon.
The team had been in town for the Mackay Fan Day and took the opportunity to pop into RACQ CQ Rescue hangar to meet the crew and sign some merchandise before boarding their flight back to Brisbane.
Former Mackay player Dane Gagai was particularly interested in speaking with the RACQ CQ Rescue crew about their lifesaving work across the region and many players, including Queensland State of Origin captain Cameron Smith and Jonathan Thurston, took the opportunity to jump into the pilot seat of the Bell 412 helicopter.
Others well-known rugby league identities who visited the service included Allan Langer, Queensland coach Kevin Walters and Trevor Gillmeister.
RACQ CQ Rescue CEO Ian Rowan said it was a huge thrill for the service to welcome the team ahead of the second State of Origin clash next week.
