New Organisers Take Charity Fun Run in Their Stride

A little sweat will really help us take off.

Whether you are a serious runner tracking a personal best time or just out for a Sunday morning stroll through our beautiful region, your participation in the 2016 Beach to Gardens Charity Fun Run will help us save lives.

If you run, walk, jog or stroll to the finish line on September 18, you’ll help raise vital funds for the region’s rescue helicopter service, RACQ CQ Rescue.

The launch of the 2016 Beach to Gardens Charity Fun Run was held at the RACQ CQ Rescue hangar at Mackay Airport today. A host of exciting changes to the 2016 event were announced which ensured the Beach to Gardens Charity Fun Run would be bigger and better than ever before, RACQ CQ Rescue fundraising co-ordinator Courtney Hansen said.

“This year we have three new routes which all start and finish at the same place, Mackay’s iconic Queen’s Park and encompass the Blue Water Trail,” Ms Hansen said.

“Participants can soak up the sun and the region’s natural beauty by choosing from a 5km, 8km or 16km distance – there really is a course for everyone, no matter your fitness level or experience.”

Ms Hansen took the opportunity to extend her gratitude to three-time sponsors Sydney Street Medical and to previous event organisers, Bill and Yvonne Cooper, who have now handed the event over to the RACQ CQ Rescue fundraising team.

“We are very fortunate that in 2016, the fourth year of this high-calibre event, we are now both the organisers and the sole charity recipient of the proceeds,” she said.

Ms Hansen encouraged participants to register for the charity fun run before August 6 to score a branded 2016 Beach to Gardens Running Singlet.

“Register today to get fit, have fun and help RACQ CQ Rescue continue to save lives in this region,” she said.

For 20 years, RACQ CQ Rescue has been assisting people in dire need and has grown in both size and status to become one of the most well-respected and trusted not-for-profit organisations in the region. The service will celebrate its milestone 7000th mission in the next few weeks.
