Rescue Helicopter Airlifts Man Injured in Quad Bike Accident on Property

RACQ CQ Rescue has airlifted a man from a cattle station near Collinsville tonight after he sustained serious injuries in a quad bike accident.

The rescue helicopter flew a total of 280 nautical miles to land on the remote property near Belyando Crossing, retrieve the patient and transfer him to the hospital in the marathon five-hour task.

 

The 64-year-old man, who is believed to have been visiting the cattle property, fell off the back of a quad bike about 4 pm, 140 nautical miles west of Mackay, suffering serious leg and abdominal injuries.

RACQ CQ Rescue was tasked at 4.30pm and arrived on scene an hour later with a trauma team including a rescue crewman, doctor and intensive care paramedic aboard.

The patient was transferred to Mackay Base Hospital arriving at 9 pm after the rescue helicopter was refuelled at Moranbah en route.

The transfer was the eighth task for the region’s rescue helicopter since Monday which has included four tasks to Moranbah, an RACQ CQ Rescue spokesperson said.
