RACQ CQ Rescue has today airlifted a toddler from a property at Koumala who sustained serious head injuries in a fall from a farm vehicle.
The two-year-old, who is from Brisbane and in the region visiting relatives, was seated in the front of an ATV farm vehicle which was travelling at slow speed when the accident occurred about 10 am, about 60km north of Mackay. The toddler’s father and four-year-old brother were also passengers in the vehicle.
RACQ CQ Rescue met paramedics at the scene about 11.15am. The child suffered a possible skull fracture and abrasions to his face and abdomen and was in an altered state of consciousness, an RACQ CQ Rescue spokesperson said.
He was transferred to the Mackay Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition and was accompanied by his pregnant mother.
It was the fourth task for the Mackay-based rescue helicopter is just 24 hours.
RACQ CQ Rescue returned to base about 12.30 pm only to be tasked again to retrieve a patient from Palm Bay, Long Island who was injured aboard a boat when it was struck by a wave.
