June a Record Month for Mackay-based Rescue Helicopter

Mackay’s rescue helicopter has set another new record making June the second biggest month in the service’s 20-year history.

RACQ CQ Rescue completed 51 tasks last month and accumulated 90.58 flying hours which cost the community-funded service almost $700,000.

Man Airlifted to Hospital After Attacked by a Wild Bull

A 67-year-old man owes his life to a personal emergency beacon after he was attacked by a wild bull near Teemburra Dam today.

RACQ CQ Rescue landed on the property to transfer the Pinnacle man to the hospital after he was gored and trampled by the animal while working by himself to the north of the Teemburra dam wall, 60 nautical miles from Mackay, about 9 am today.

Mining Giant Extends $335,000 Support to Rescue Helicopter

BHP Billiton and its joint venture partners have extended their support for the Mackay-based rescue helicopter service with a $335,000, five-year sponsorship that will help save hundreds of lives across the region.

RACQ CQ Rescue CEO Martin Cleland said the community-funded rescue helicopter service relied on the support of companies like BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) and BHP Billiton Mitsui Coal (BMC) to continue to offer its vital service across the region.

Injured Man Trapped in Car After It Plunges off Bridge

A 39-year-old Finch Hatton man had to be cut free from the wreckage of his car after it plunged off a bridge at Mt Ossa tonight.

RACQ CQ Rescue landed on Mirani-Mt Ossa Road, 50km west of Mackay, at 7 pm after the man’s car left the road and crashed into Silent Grove Creek about 6.30pm.

Man Dies and Two Others Injured when Boat Overturns

A Bowen fisherman has died and another was trapped in the hull of a boat after it overturned off Bowen today.

RACQ CQ Rescue was tasked about 10.30am that a six-metre, the half-cabin boat had overturned about two kilometres offshore from Flagstaff Hill. Initial reports suggested five people had been aboard when it capsized.
