 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RESCUER’S FOUR MISSIONS TOTAL 1200KM AND 19 HOURS IN ONE DAY

The Mackay-based rescue helicopter has flown more than 1200km in 24 hours to transfer ill and injured patients to lifesaving medical care.

Since yesterday, RACQ CQ Rescue had been tasked on four separate missions across the region by Queensland Health, taking more than 19 hours to complete.

RACQ CQ Rescue landed in a grassy clearing on a property near Nebo this morning to airlift a patient with serious chest injuries after being crushed by a horse. The helicopter was tasked by Queensland Health about 9.15am to fly direct to a property on the Peak Downs Highway, near Blue Mountain, about 70km south east of Mackay.

The rider was working with cattle when the horse tripped in the paddock and rolled, crushing the right side of her body. A doctor and Critical Care Paramedic administered treatment on the scene before the rider was flown to Mackay Base Hospital at 10.50am.

Last night, the rescue helicopter crew was tasked about 7.30pm to transfer a neurological patient from Mackay to Townsville hospital followed by a critically ill cardiac patient from Bowen to Townsville about 1.30am.

About midday on Tuesday, RACQ CQ Rescue transferred a tourist who suffered a suspected Irukandji envenomation from Hayman Island to hospital in Mackay in a stable condition.
