DRIVER INJURED AFTER CANE HAULOUT VEHICLE ROLLS INTO CREEK

A worker had an incredibly lucky escape today after his cane haulout vehicle rolled a number of times into a creek near Bloombusy.

RACQ CQ Rescue landed at Lakeside Airpark, about 90km north-west of Mackay, to meet an ambulance crew treating the injured 63-year-old man to transport him to Mackay Base Hospital.

The Mackay man had been driving a cane haulout vehicle on a Bloomsbury property and was travelling down a hill when his front left tyre blew out causing him to lose control. The vehicle rolled several times about 30 metres downhill and into a creek on the property.

The worker was lucky to be able to extricate himself from the cabin of the partially submerged vehicle and slowly dragged himself up the hill to alert other harvesting workers to the accident.

RACQ CQ Rescue was tasked by Queensland Health about 2.30pm after workers called 000.

The Mackay-based rescue helicopter was originally tasked to the accident scene north of Bloomsbury, but was redirected mid-flight to meet ambulance crews with the patient on board at the airfield.

He is now being flown to Mackay Base Hospital now in a stable condition.
